From this headquarters, López planned the attack at Tuyutí and directed the defense of the Humaitá Quadrilateral. There he signed promotions and orders, had a field hospital and a cemetery with a chapel built, and there José Eduvigis Díaz died on 7 February 1867. During the siege, Caxias’s headquarters at Tuyú Cué was about three kilometers away: the closest the two commanders came to each other in the whole war.

‡ Disputed.Dates when it was set up and abandoned: the National Archive holds promotions signed there between June and December 1866, and López left the area in March 1868, but the exact day was not found. ◊ No images of the headquarters survive: the appearance in the plate is a reconstruction.
